Police have been conducting an internal investigation into their response to issues raised by Ms Bombara and her mother.
WA Police Deputy Commissioner Allan Adams also addressed the march. He acknowledged police did not always get it right, "and on occasions we're involved in incidents that have gone tragically wrong". But he added there was some hope from the "system reform" now underway in police response to family and domestic violence, including improving communications between police and frontline family and domestic violence workers.

Ariel Bombara's devastatingly powerful address to WA Police contained a rhetorical question that should serve as a wake-up call to government. "The sad reality is that had my father come to the correct location and murdered my mum and me, we would have become just another domestic violence statistic that disappears with little further investigation," Ms Bombara said on Friday. "We told you that he was going to murder us. "So did you not believe us, or did you just not give a shit? "Red flags that seemed so obvious to me that it baffles me that actual police officers, whose job it is to protect people, did not take this risk seriously." She puts this fatal tragedy down to a perfect storm of apathy and compassion fatigue from officers, combined with shoddy systems, outdated policies, and insufficient training.

TANYA DAY INQUEST SUMMARY OF FINDINGS - 2020 VIC
Ms Day died after sustaining a serious head injury in a police cell on 22 December 2017. The findings of the Coroner did ... detail a “culture of complacency regarding intoxicated detainees” within Victoria Police and found that there is a systemic failure to recognise the medical dangers of intoxication and comply with the mandatory terms of the governing policy and procedures regarding the management of persons in care or custody. This shows “the power of stereotype and its resistance to correction.” The Leading Senior Constable was found by the Coroner not to be a credible witness and the findings noted that the accuracy of his custody module entries (regarding the observation and monitoring of Ms Day) are concerning.
